Dear Visitor,
here below please find a few basic information about our Rotary Club Portofino. If you drop by the lovely coast of the Ligurian Sea, in the north west part of Italy, and you want to meet with your fellows Rotarians, please do read the following.
Some geographical facts. Portofino is a unique cozy fisherman village settled by Ancient Romans some 2,000 years ago. Only when Britons roaming the world discovered Portofino, it has become in the last two centuries a world famous resort sure worth a visit. Since the road to Portofino is a classic narrow winding road, many permanent traffic restrictions are in effect. During the peak season driving to Portofino can be a quite demanding experience. Ferries instead run frequently to and from Portofino and that’s by and large the best and more convenient mean to get there. Anyway, we meet in a town a handful of miles before, Santa Margherita Ligure that beside being a lovely small town as well, has plenty of parking facilities, it is closer to the Autostrada and there is a railway station too. As an alternative, we meet sometimes on the other side of the Portofino peninsula, another ancient breathtaking sea village nearby named Camogli. (also, click here)
Us, as a Club. As a general rule, we try meeting at dinner four times a month. For many reasons this program can change with very short notice. Our Dinners are hosted at the hotel restaurant lounges, close by the lobbies. So, once in a while some Rotarians from a foreign country pop in, maybe with their dears travelling on vacation or for business. They are very, very welcome to join us, they come as they are and we love them.  Speeches are in Italian, but so is the food so it is worth to give us a try. Besides, some of us native Ligurians will be more then pleased to take a seat by your side during the evening and entertain you with our broken English. The evenings start at 8 pm when our President rings the Bell and spends a few words to introduce or update services and other activities run by our Club, our District and the Rotary International. We have guests giving their speeches about a wide range of subjects. We have a rule strictly enforced that the evening ends at 11pm or 23:00. Speakers can continue their conference if they wish, but they will be left alone with no power, in the dark, no HVAC.
